Kastanias Traditional Guesthouse - Tsagarada Pelion
The region of the Pelion Peninsula is one of the most beautiful and inspiring parts of Greece. It is the perfect combination of mountain and sea, and a place where the landscape and scenery change throughout the seasons of the year.
From the famous large villages of Tsagarada, Portaria and Makrinisa, to some of the small, hidden gems such as Mikro and Xorto, there is magic and beauty to be found on every corner of Pelion.
Dividing the penisula is Mount Pelion, where at the peak, is the famous Pelion ski centre of Agriolefkes. The east side of Pelion borders with the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea, whilst to the west is the Pagasitic Gulf.
One of the most famous Pelion villages is that of Tsgaarada. The village is actually made up of the four smaller towns of Agia Kiriaki, Agia Paraskevi, Agio Stefano and Agioi Taxirahes. Together, these 4 towns create the magical and unique village of Tsagarada, which is where you will find the "Kastanies Traditional Guesthouse".
The entire region of Tsagarada is one of immense natural beauty, with the luschious green vegetation creating a peaceful and relaxed setting. Tsagarada is a village that is ideal for visiting any time of the year. With easy access to a number of wonderful beaches, as well as to the ski centre of Pelion, the village is one that is ideal for both summer and winter tourism.
The village of Tsagarada is one that needs to be explored to be fully appreciated. There are many stone paths that you can follow, taking you on a fascinating journey through beautiful scenery, where along the way, you will pass many spring water fountains, and small arched bridges.
The square of Agia Paraskevi is definately worth visiting, as here you will see the huge, awe-inspiring plane tree that is over a thousand years old. The tree itself has a diameter of 14 meteres. Situated around the squares of the towns are a number of small cafes and tavernas, where you can enjoy a drink or tasty meal.
In and around Tsagarada are a number of very interesting churches such as the chapel of Panagias of Magelomatas.
This chapel was actually built inside a cave and was also used as a secret school during the Turkish occupation of Greece. There are many other small, quaint churches that are well worth visiting if you have the chance.
For those who enjoy the sea, there are some wonderful beaches in the area. Two of the most popular are the beaches of Fakistra and Milopotamos. Here you can enjoy swimming and relaxation during the hot summer days. The waters here are especially refreshing.
The eastern side of the Pelion peninsula, and Tsagarada in particular have a large number of interesting and beautiful places that are worth visiting.
